There is no getting around the fact that learning to fly is a costly endeavor.  Any quality activity really worth pursuing, such as purchasing a new car or obtaining a college education, has a significant price tag associated with it.

Remember, a pilot's certificate is good for life.  It opens many full-time and part-time career opportunities.  Your investment in a pilot's certificate will reap you many benefits, from exciting adventure to becoming a globe-trotting professional aviator.

So how much does it cost?

In all probability, you will spend between $6,000 and $8,000 to obtain your private pilot's certificate.  This includes all flight instruction, aircraft rental, books, supplies and materials.  You can reduce these costs dramatically through frequent training, e.g., several times a week or even daily, and by aggressive self-study.

You pay as you train.  No advance outlay is required.  And financing at attractive interest rates is available.

Here's the break-down of costs:

Aircraft Rental: $59 to $84/hr
Flight/Ground Instruction: $40 to $55/hr
Supplies, Books, and Materials: $300 to $500
Flight Medical Examination: $80 to $125
Flight and Knowledge Test: $300 to $400
